Stair sanding

We sand and finish wooden steps so they are smooth and even again.

Wooden stairs in a narrow stairwell

What it involves

We sand the steps by hand and with small machines, because a large floor sander does not fit in a tight space. We strip the old lacquer, level the surface and fill cracks. Then we apply a finish, the same as on the floor or a different one if the stairs are meant to stand out.

When it is a good choice

  • The steps are worn in the middle and slippery.
  • The lacquer is coming off at the edges.
  • The stairs should match the colour of a renovated floor.

Good to know

Stairs take a lot of wear, so for the steps we recommend a harder lacquer. While we work the stairs cannot be used, and after the finish is applied you have to wait for it to dry. It is worth planning around that, for example when the stairs lead to the only bathroom.
