What it involves
A finish protects the wood from water, dirt and wear. Lacquer forms a hard layer on top. Oil soaks into the wood and leaves it closer to its natural look. We apply several thin coats and let each one dry. The differences are explained on the finishes page.
When it is a good choice
- The floor has just been sanded and needs protection.
- The old finish has gone dull, but the wood underneath is in good condition.
- You want to change the shade or the sheen of the floor.
Good to know
Lacquer copes better with heavy traffic, for example in an office or a hallway. Oil is easier to repair in one spot, but it needs refreshing from time to time. After lacquering or oiling the floor needs time before you can walk on it and put furniture back. That time depends on the product and on the temperature in the room, so we give it with the quote.
